The Roussels sheltered about fifteen airmen for periods varying from two to eight days, also providing them with false identity cards and money - 3000 French francs (~£10) each.
Lt. Roy Carpenter (USAAF) was brought to them by Jean Saguez and Charles Charpentier on 18th March 1944; Raymond Sherk (RCAF) arrived in the same period. On 23rd march 1944, René Muchembled escorted the two airmen to Paris and Bordeaux.
At the end of March 1944, Raymond Fournier (USAAF) was sheltered for one night. He had been received from Eliane Méplaux and passed on to René Muchembled.
On 12th April 1944, Leopold Roussel helped René Dhaille and Lucien Delacroix convey Leroy Goswick, Frank McDonald, Frederick Kelly & Edward DeCoste (USAAF) from Mme. Delplanque (Pauline Couvreur) of Contay to Eliane Méplaux of Hebuterne. According to Kelly, two other US airmen were also in the party - Edward O'Leary and Donald Girard of the 384 BG / 544 BS. The six were taken to Paris and then Bordeaux, by the sister and nephew of Mme. Méplaux.
Leopold Roussel was arrested on 16th April 1944 and taken to the citadel in Amiens, before being transferred to Compiègne. He died of asphyxia, while en route to Germany, on 2nd July 1944.
