From August to December 1943, the Bar des Gourmets was used as a meeting place by members of Possum. Raymond Maupu also supplied food and cigarettes for the airmen sheltered in various houses around Reims.
Conrad Lafleur was housed there for long periods, as well as his R/T equipment, and could be contacted there by telephone (tel: 40-19). Raymond Maupu also claimed to listen out for transmissions from London, if Lafleur was not around; these were probably the "messages personnels" broadcast by the BBC. After Lafleur's shootout with the Germans at 161, rue Lesage, he came directly to the café and asked Raymond Maupu to warn the organisation.
After the arrests in Reims and the surrounding villages, Raymond Maupu ceased all activity.
